Frequently Asked Questions
About courses
It is useful to attend several courses? The topics are very similar.
Indeed, we go through the same big topics but the approach is always adapted to the different development stages of the child. In the different courses we go into details in the physical, psychological and neurological characteristics of the given developmental stage. We would interpret differently for instance cooperation, autonomy, rule setting with a small child than with a teen. Beside the revision can help to consolidate the new concepts.
I don’t speak French but I’m interested in these courses. What can I do?
At the moment the programme conceived by l’Atelier des parents is provided only in French. If you are interested in the method we can meet in coaching sessions (one to one or with your partner) and go through the techniques you could use with your child and discuss your problems or concerns.
We have serious problems with my children at home. They are disrespectful and we have huge fights. Are you sure that nonviolent communication can help us?
I am convinced that nonviolent communication can help a lot. However, a lot of patience and some time is needed to change the old patterns and to recreate trust. Every child is different. One child responds positively immediately for instance to empathetic listening while for another it might take more time. I think that it is absolutely worth to give it a chance.
I am willing to change and attend this course but my partner thinks that there is no need to change. Can it work when only one parent is applying this method?
It is a very common situation indeed. I believe that a family can gain a lot when already one of the parents is willing to use nonviolent communication at home. We are different. Not everybody is open to change or not at the same time and this is fine. If your partner can see that you can build a different kind of bond with your child he or she might be willing to learn about the new approach.
What happens if there are not enough participants in a course I applied for?
If there are less than 6 participants in a course, I will pay your advance back and inform you about the timing of the coming courses.
About the 4+3 structure
There are two options for attending the workshops: You can either take 4 meetings and 3 meetings or you can sign up for the whole 7 week program.
The topics of the first 4 meetings are the following:
The neurological development of the child, challenges of the parent-child relationship, needs, emotions, dealing with emotional crisis, authority, rules, educational consequences.
The topics of the second 3 meetings are:
the self-esteem, autonomy, appropriate criticizing and praising, handling conflicts in a nonviolent way.
If you choose to take only the first part (4 meetings) you can continue with the second part right away or later on (after paying the additional fee).
